Why are links underlined and blue?

If you want to emphasize text on the Internet, don't underline it! Form them in Bold font or Italics or different color but do not underline them.

Underlined text is automatically THE sign that it is a hyperlink, i.e. a redirect to another page.

If a user clicks on an underlined text and nothing happens at first, he or she will be confused or frustrated.

This is a basic rule, but since when has it actually been like this? Blue underlined links are now so ingrained in the brain that they are only subconsciously perceived as a natural design element.

But when did hyperlinks actually start to exist? I got to know the first ones at university in 1994 and they were already underlined and blue in color. Links that you had visited had a purple color. And before that? Research then revealed that other people had already thought about this, in other words: there are an astonishing number of people who no longer do anything sensible in life.

The people from Mozilla itself, the creators of Firefox, are right at the forefront. The research into the first blue links is also a nostalgic look back to when the Internet was really still new territory (at least that's how I felt at the time). Here is the article:

TL;DR:

The first blue link appeared in the Mosaic browser on April 12, 1993. But keep that to yourself if you want to pass as a socially connected person.
